NSCDC arrests 19 persons, recover 81 trucks at illegal oil storage site

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, says it has arrested 19 suspects and recovered 81 vehicles at an illegal oil storage site in Ikeja. The Command said N4 million cash, 140 drums containing illegally refined diesel, 15 power generating sets, 12 pumping machines, 25 surface tanks, among other items, were also recovered from the site. According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Oluwaseun Abolurin, spokesman of the Command, the suspects were refining automotive gas oil, also known as diesel, at the site. “The CG Special Intelligence Squad, in realisation of their responsibilities, stormed Etal Avenue, off Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State, at about 12:18hrs, on Monday, May 30, 2022, where it busted an illegal oil storage site, where Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, is being refined,” the statement reads. “The squad arrested 19 suspects (18 male and one female), 81 trucks, nine buses, 12 pumping machines, 25 ...

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Chikun Local Government Area (LGA), Mr Salasi Musa, and his counterpart in  Giwa LGA,  Mr Abubakar Lawal, over alleged  misappropriation of funds. The lawmakers took the decision at their sitting on Tuesday following a motion by Alhaji Ahmed Chokali, the  member representing Zaria Kewaye Constituency. According to him, the House can no longer continue to watch while the council chairmen continue to flout the state’s local government guidelines. The State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made this known through his Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba in a statement on Saturday, said the development followed recommendation by the University's visitation Panel. He stated that, the institution is now to be called Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST) , Wudil. Gawuna defeated his opponent Sha'aban Ibrahim Sharada to emerge winner of the Primary Election held in the late hours of Thursday at the Sani Abacha Sports Complex, Kofar Mata Kano. Umar Idris Shuaibu - Kano Kano State Government has adopted the White Paper Report of the Visitation Panel to the State University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, part of which included the constitution of an inter-agency investigative Panel, to look into the issue of unremitted staff pension contributions. The Commissioner for Information Malam Muhammad Garba, stated the development while briefing Newsmen on the outcome of the weekly Executive Council meeting, held at the Council Chamber Kano State Government House. Muhammad Garba said the Council directed that a Panel should be constituted to investigate the entire outstanding liabilities and audited accounts of the University, to recover lost resources and sanction erring officers. He added that the Governing Council has also been directed to institute disciplinary procedure against the Vice Chancellor and Bursar according to the laws of the University.

Umar Idris Shuaibu - Kano Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (retired), former Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, has alleged that some  persons are “eating Nigeria like termites”. Al-Mustapha said this in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The retired Major said these persons were 56 in number, adding that he came across the information while he was in prison. Al-Mustapha was arrested on October 21, 1998, over the death of Kudirat, wife of MKO Abiola. He was in Kirikiri Prison in Lagos until the court cleared him of all the allegations levelled against him in 2013. When asked to name the persons “eating Nigeria”, Al-Mustapha said it was a discussion for another day. He said he knew who the persons were and he would disclose their identities when the time was ripe. Fomer Kano state deputy governor Prof. Hafiz Abubakar has revealed that he will not assist Governor Abdullahi Ganduje if he is being given the chance to do so, in 2023. Speaking during a stakeholder’s meeting held in Kano, Prof. Hafiz explained that the state leadership of the party has not recognized them as bonafide members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state. This is coming two days after his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N80 billion fraud. The suspension letter marked HMFBNP/AGF/SUSPENSION/5/2022 and dated 18th May, 2022 said the suspension became necessary “to allow for proper and unhindered investigation in to the serious allegations in line with Public Service Rules 030406”. Gas Explosion kill 4 in Kano

The Police Command in Kano State, has confirmed the killing of four persons after a gas explosion on Tuesday morning in Kano. Samaila Dikko, the State Commissioner of Police, stated this in a Radio and Television broadcast on Tuesday in Kano. Dikko said that the gas exploded at a welding point near a primary school on Aba Road in Sabon Gari, Kano. He said that rescue workers were making efforts to discover people trapped at the building where the explosion occurred. Dikko urged residents of the state to remain calm as the situation was under control. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the explosion which occurred near the Winners Kids Academy resulted in damage in some buildings in the area. (NAN)

Fraud: Why EFCC arrested AGF

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) Ahmad Idris over an N80 billion fraud. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren confirmed his arrest in a statement issued on Monday evening. The statement said Ahmad Idris was arrested after failing to honour the commission’s invitations to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent act. “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, May 16, 2022, arrested serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmad Idris in connection with diversion of funds and money laundering activities to the tune of N80 billion (Eighty Billion Naira only),” the statement read. “The Commission’s verified intelligence showed that the AGF raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates.”

Veteran Journalist and consultant for Stallion Times Media Project tagged “Get involved, dialogue and improve (G-DRIP), Malam Adamu Salisu Ladan stated this is shortly after a one day training to Journalist from various Media Organizations, supported by Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism and Mark Arthur Foundation, in Kano. He said observing the codes will help those in practice to shun anything that is not needed and focus on the core mandate of Journalism in the society.
