How ICRC trains and empower disable, Hisbah guards in Kano

Fifty people with disability benefited from micro economic initiative of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
The supervisor of the Project from Economic Security Unit of ICRC in Kano, Musa Peter said the four days training was geared towards training the beneficiaries with different business ideas that will help them to formulate the viable business plan and develop it into reality, and also managing the business opportunity for them to be self reliant.
Musa Peter added that ICRC motive is to empower the people with training and finances so as to be productive and be employers of labour.
"The financial literacy training is to first of all integrate the disable into society and give them hope that there's better life in the future.
"Because anybody who is successful after the final stage of the project cycle, our hope is to get millionaires out of them with the businesses they're running, as in the case of some people before", Musa Peter.
Rahma Salisu is a caregiver to a minor (daughter), said ICRC supported them before even the micro economic initiative.
Rahma Salisu added that she gain new ways of running her catering business with four days training from ICRC.
"Actually they encouraged me to actualize my dream on my daughter, which will go a long way in supporting her in the future.
"My dream is for my daughter with disability to never lack anything in her life, and be one who can self some to be successful", a caregiver and mother of one minor.
Speaking earlier, ICRC Head of Office Kano, Mr. Said Midadi assured general public they will continue to work without impartiality and discrimination.
Said Midadi said ICRC will continue to respond to emergency situations of conflict and accidents.
"I work is out of discrimination, which is core values that ICRC is established for.
"That's why you see us in many areas of Northeast where there's is much problem.
"Now we train 50 people on livelihood training which many of them are beneficiaries of ICRC Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP), which is a collaborative effort between Economic Security Unit and ICRC Health Unit.
In another development, ICRC also engages Hisbah Guards on First Aid and other paramedic techniques for three days.
The trainer from ICRC Health Unit Amaechi Odili, said they take it important to train Hisbah Guards as they are the only ones responding to emergency and accidents issues.
He added that the training also covered those from religious associations due to the large number of people in the religious sect.
Appreciating the gesture, Assistant Commandant General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Operations, Shehu Tasi'u Ishak said the First Aid training will improve their services in the State.
Tasi'u Ishak added that this so because Hisbah is the only Government Agency responding to emergency situations in all the nook and crannies of Kano State.
ICRC present in Nigeria since 1988, and during the civil war between 1967 to 1970.
They majorly focuses on supporting health facilities, responding to consequences of armed violence among others.
