NASS threatens sanctions against MDAs over secret recruitment

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs has threatened that the National Assembly will invoke legislative sanctions against Ministries, Departments or Agencies of the Federal Government found engaging in secret and lopsided recruitments. The committee, therefore, asked the heads of the MDAs to ensure that their recruitment exercises accommodate every qualified Nigerian from the six geopolitical zones of the country. The Chairman of the committee, Senator Danjuma La’ah, issued the warning in an interview with journalists, shortly after his panel’s engagement with officials of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. ASUU: OAU begins strike over unpaid allowances

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife chapter, yesterday began indefinite strike over unpaid allowances of members. Reports says that the union sought the permission of its national secretariat to embark on strike during the last emergency congress on January 11. The union announced the strike through its Chairman, Adeola Egbedokun, in a statement yesterday after an emergency congress. A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Idris Muhammad has produced an electric motorcycle called 'e-Scooter'. The e-Scooter, which was unveiled by Kaduna State Polytechnic, has the ability to eliminate burning fossil fuels, periodic change of engine oil, and changing of spark plugs. The Northern Youth Unity Forum says over 50,000 northerners are currently languishing in different prisons in Lagos State. Chairman of the forum, Dr. Ibrahim Ya'u Galadanchi, disclosed this while addressing Journalist in Kano. 18 killed, several abducted in Niger community

Over 18 people were killed, 40 injured and several abducted when terrorists invaded Galadima Kogo community in Shiroro local government area of Niger state. The attack started around 5 p.m yesterday, which lasted for hours. Reports says that the terrorists issued a four-day notice to the villagers prior to the attack. The notice, it was gathered, coincided with the withdrawal of security personnel from Galadima Kogo. Several houses were razed and several cattle of the residents rustled during the attack. Kaduna: Gunmen kill 10, raze houses

A community of Atak Mawai in Zaman Dabo village, Atyap Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf local Government area of Kaduna state was attacked by unknown gunmen killing about ten persons. The attackers also burnt down about ten houses, according to the eye witness source who sought anonymity. FRSC reacts to alleged promotion racketeering in agency

The Federal Road Safety Corps has clarified a report alleging promotion racketeering in the organisation. Prohibition of the use of statues remains - Hisbah

The Kano State Hisbah Board said that the ban on the use of statues in clothing and tailoring shops across the state is still in place. According to the Commander General Harun Muhammad Sani (Ibn Sina), the action was taken because the use of the statue was against Islamic teaching. Gunmen raid THISDAY office, threaten to kill staff

Gunmen have raided the office of THISDAY located at Utako district in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The intruders were said to have subjected the security guards and production staff to “inhumane treatments”, threatening to kill them if they made any attempt to alert the Police. The gunmen who were said to be in the premises of the newspaper’s office for about 45 minutes, reportedly told the staff that they would be back again “in the coming days”. The management of THISDAY said it has since reported the incident to the Police division in Utako district. The attack is coming about 10 years after suicide bombers attacked the newspaper’s offices in the FCT and Kaduna state, killing 11 people. The attacks happened almost simultaneously. The FCT has been recording a spike in criminal activities in the past few weeks.

The CSIRT, in its first-ever security advisories less than three months after its creation, has solely identified the two cyber-attacks targeting the consumers and proffer solutions that can help telecom consumers from falling victims to the two cyber vulnerabilities. The first is described as Juice Jacking, which can gain access into consumers’ devices when charging mobile phones at public charging stations and it applies to all mobile phones. FCT primary school teachers embark on strike over ‘unpaid salaries’

Primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have embarked on an indefinite strike over “unpaid salaries”. Chairman of the FCT chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Stephen Knabayi, announced the commencement of the strike after an emergency meeting of the union in Abuja. Knabayi said the meeting was held to evaluate the commitment of the council chairmen to an agreement with the union which led to the suspension of the previous strike in December last year. The Historica Nigeria reported that secondary and primary school teachers in the FCT had threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if workers’ salaries were not paid. Insecurity: Gunmen abduct school principal, others

The Vice Principal of Buni Yadi Primary school, Babagana Kachalla, and four others were abducted by gunmen in Madiya village in Gujba Local Government Area of ​​Yobe State. Yobe State Police Spokesperson, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in Damaturu in a statement.  Abdulkarim said the remaining people abducted by the gunmen included Abubakar Barma, Haruna Barma, Modu Bukar and Hajiya Gana.  He said the incident took place around 8 am on Tuesday, according to a report by Mala Boyema at the local Police station around 10:37 am on Tuesday.  The spokesman said Boyema was among those who survived the attack by gunmen in the area.  According to him, the attackers later released Hajiya Gana, the only woman among the abductors.

2023: MACBAN denies endorsing Tinubu presidential bid

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has denied endorsing any presidential aspirant for the 2023 General Elections (Tinubu). The National Secretary of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, made the denial in a statement made available to Newsmen, in Abuja, on Wednesday. The statement said the association respects the aspirations of all presidential aspirants, although it is not yet time to single out an individual for support.
