NIS partners IOM, NAPTIP, others in border security and migration management

Nigerian Immigration says the Service intensify efforts to improve border management among it's key responsibilities.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Nigerian Immigration Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Amos Okpu on Friday.
The statement added that, Comptroller General of the Service Mr. Isah Idris Jere stated this at the completion of a one day senior management meeting with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and Port Health Service as part of efforts to flag off the 2nd phase NIS training strategy and implementation programme.
Comptroller General, represented by Deputy Comptroller in charge of Visa and Residency Directorate, Ishaka Abdulmumini Halliru, appreciated the gesture and said the training will serve as skills upgrade for Men and Officers in the Service.
"Surely it will help immensely in service delivery and interagency collaboration and partnership among frontline agencies like NAPTIP and Department of Port Health Service.
"The opportunity of joint training will also be a building block for sustaining the much needed synergy between NIS and sister agencies charged with migrants, smuggling and trafficking in persons in Nigeria, aside building resource centers", Ishaka Abdulmumini Halliru.
He then directed Command Comptrollers to add value to the Personnel Training Centers through maintenance and preserving the existing structures and learning materials.
Speaking earlier, the Director General of NAPTIP, Dr. Fatima Waziri-Azi, mention IOM as an Organization that consistently supported their activities by enhancing capacity of frontline operatives.
Fatima Waziri-Azi then called on respective agencies to utilize the contributions of donor agencies, and improve on what has been put in place.
She also called on NIS and NAPTIP to join hand in complementing each other in the fight against migrants, smuggling and trafficking.
In his remark, the Chief Mission IOM Nigeria, Prestage Murina appealed to different agencies to institutionalize training and retraining as a way of improving the capacity of officials working in border areas.
Murina added that plans are underway to establish four additional Personnel Training Resource Centers in other Formations of NIS.
The statement says that IOM in collaboration with NIS established seven personnel training resource centers (PTRCs) in Kano, Abuja, Kebbi, Cross River, Anambra and Ondo States between 2017-2019.
The Personnel Training Resource Centers is a collaborative effort between the NIS, IOM, Government of Germany and Netherlands.
