BRAKING: Kano commissioner of Water resigns

Sadiq Aminu Wali, the son of embattled PDP Kano leader Ambassador Aminu Wali has resigned from his position as Kano state commissioner of Water resources. Sadiq Wali made the announcement while on Thursday, while addressing journalist in Kano. He said "I am greatly honoured to have been called to serve in the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the good people of Kano state as a Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council for the last two years." He added that "Today, I have decided to pursue other opportunities in my political career and wish to announce my resignation as Commissioner of Water Resources effective Thursday, March 31, 2022." AKTH to establish 1st Geriatric center in the North

Umar Idris Shuaibu - Kano Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital is on the top gear to establish the 1st  Geriatrics service Center in Northern Nigeria.  This was stated by the Chief Medical Director,  Prof. Abdurrahaman  Abba Sheshe during a courtesy visit by a non governmental organisation 'Elderly Care Support Initiative' to  the hospital.  Prof. Sheshe said the hospital has 5 consultants from Family  Medicine and Internal Medicine Departments,  with sub speciality interest in Geriatrics with a center that is about eighty percent (80%) level to accomplishment. The Chief Medical Director added that Geriatrics is a field of Medicine which deals with advanced medical care of elderly  patients and social interventions needed by the aged patients.  The care reduces stress effects like depression  and idleness found  among them. Customs dismisses reports of CG Hameed Ali slumping

DC Timi Bomodi, National Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service, in a statement on Sunday. He said the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd.), is hale and hearty and not ill as reported by a little known online media outlet. APC announces Abdullahi Adamu as new National Chairman

Senator Abdullahi Adamu has emerged as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), about a year and nine months after the Adams Oshiomhole led National Working Committee (NWC) was dissolved. Adamu was returned unopposed on Saturday at the party’s national convention held at the Eagle Square in Abuja. Abdullahi Adamu, a serving member of the Senate representing Nasarawa West and former governor of the state, is President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice for the job. Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru , who is also Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced Adamu as the winner of the contest after he was endorsed by party members and leaders at the convention via a voice vote. Kaduna: Over 50 feared dead, church burnt as bandits attack communities

At least 50 people have been feared killed while unspecified number of persons identified as bandits attack nine communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. ASP Muhammad Jalinge, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the incident. He, however, noted that the command was yet to compile the actual number of deaths recorded during the invasion. ASP Jalingo said: “We’re still waiting for the full details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer, Giwa and the Area Commander Zaria.” A member of the Vigilante Group in Dillalai area, Mansur Ibrahim, told Daily Trust that the bandits also burnt a church building, houses and ran away with over 100 cows. He mentioned that Dillalai village was the worst hit by the attack where about 15 persons were dead. “The bandits also burnt a church at Zangon Tama village, all in Giwa local government area,” he added. Attacks: KDSG relaxes curfew in two LGAs

The Kaduna Government says it has relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on Kaura and Jema’a LGAs of the state.  The Commissioner for internal security and home affairs Mr. Samuel Aruwan, announced the development on Thursday. You recalled that 'The Historica Nigeria' had reported that the Kaduna state Government declared 24-hour curfew in Jema’a and Kaura LGAs over security concerns. There had been recent attacks on communities in the affected LGAs, leading to the killing of over 30 people. Convention: APC bars political appointees from voting

The All Progressives Congress has barred political appointees from voting at its national convention holding on Saturday. The party made this known in a Press statement on Thursday. The statement was titled, ‘Attention to political office holders who were elected as delegates’. It read, “The National Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of APC has declared that all political appointees who were elected as delegates to the National Convention slated for 26/3/2022 SHALL NOT VOTE in view of the controversy surrounding Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act,2022. “However, political appointees can still attend as observers.” The Senate had earlier unanimously rejected Electoral Act Amendment Bill sent by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). Custom seizes truck of donkey skin in Kano

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said it had seized a truckload with 3,700 pieces of donkey skin. The Command’s Controller, Muhammad Abubakar Umar, made the disclosure at a news conference  on Thursday in Kano. “This is the largest seizure in the country as far as smuggling of donkey skin is concerned,” he said. He said that the truck was seized in Kano and that four suspects were arrested in connection with the offence. Abubakar Umar said that the suspects, who were granted administrative bail, would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others. He said that customs would continue to enforce the treaty signed by many countries on saving endangered animals worldwide.   (NAN)

Don’t exceed 100km/h on Nigerian roads, Minister tell motorists

Minister of Works and Housing, Dr. Raji Fashola, has urged motorists nationwide to keep speed limits below 100km/h on Nigerian roads. This is as he said the emergence of new roads across the nation has raised drivers’ propensity to speed excessively. Fashola disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Thursday, during a Special Weekly Briefing coordinated by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. He also decried the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other petroleum products, saying they deteriorate the roads faster. The minister said this while briefing the press on the current status of the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund and other major projects being undertaken by the Ministry of Works and Housing. He also provided further updates on key collaborations between the Federal Government and the State Governments in the implementation of some of the major reforms being executed by the Ministry and the PIDF.

Deleting section 84 (12) of Electoral Act, in progress - Malami

Attorney-general of the federation Abubakar Malami, says the Federal Government is taking the necessary steps towards deleting section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022. The section reads: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.” Last Friday, a Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia state, ordered the Attorney-general of the Federation to delete the section from the amended electoral act. The judge Evelyn Anyadike, held that the section was unconstitutional, invalid, illegal, null, void and cannot stand. Anyadike ruled that sections 66(1)(f), 107(1)(f), 137(1)(f) and 182(1)(f) of the 1999 constitution already stipulated that appointees of Government seeking to contest elections were to resign at least 30 days to the date of the election. NERC: Erratic power supply will soon be a history

Sanusi Garba, Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says stakeholders in the power industry are working to address the current challenges in the sector.  The national power grid had collapsed twice last week amid fuel scarcity, a hike in fuel price. Garba said this on Monday during an interactive session with journalists after the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) meeting in Lagos. Present at the meeting were top officials of NERC, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Generation Companies (GenCos) and Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos). ICRC trains 33 community animal health workers in Kaduna

KDSG declares 24-hour curfew in two LGAs

Umar Idris Shuaibu - Kano Following advice from security agencies, the Kaduna State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jema’a and Kaura local government areas with immediate effect.  This is to assist the security agencies to stabilize the situation in the areas, save lives and property and enable the restoration of law and order. This was contained in a statement signed by  Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs of Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan. The statement added that, the security agencies have full authorization to enforce the curfew.  Kaduna State Government then appeals to all residents of Jema’a and Kaura local Government areas to cooperate with the security agencies in the urgent task of restoring peace and upholding law and order.   

Kagoro youths protest gunmen attack, burn tires, attack passengers

Youths of Kagoro town, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have mounted roadblocks to protest an attack on Agban, along Gidan Waya Road. Gunmen were said to have attacked the area on Sunday evening. The angry youths burned tires and attacked some passengers to protest the attack, killing two persons in Kafanchan. Schools and businesses are currently under lock and key for fear of being attacked. The Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Muhammed Jalige, could not be reached for comments as calls to this phone were not answered.

The call was made during an excursion visit by students of Government Senior Secondary School Gyadi-gyadi to the Hospital. Dr. Abdussalam disclosed that people avoid or delay seeking treatment due to concerns about being treated differently or fears of losing their jobs, livelihood, lower self-esteem or more difficulties at work and society. Electoral Act: Malami, Amaechi, Ngige may contest primaries while holdings Offices

Barely nine days after the Senate refused to remove Section 84(10) of the Electoral Act, a Federal High Court in Umuahia on Friday, annulled the section, insisting that it was at variance with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. This effectively allows serving ministers and aides to the President, Muhammadu Buhari, serving state commissioners to contest at the governorship, Presidential and senatorial primaries without resigning from their offices. Military retires 329 personnel

The Nigerian military on Friday retired 329 senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs). The retirees were charged to continue showing unalloyed loyalty to the nation. The retirees, comprising 258 from the Army, 59 from the Navy and 12 from Air Force, were sent forth at a well-attended ceremony at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos. Addressing the retirees, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, reminded them that some of them could be called upon to render certain services, including training of cadets, new recruits that would be deployed to various theatres of operations. He said that the level of insecurity had taken a new dimension, urging the retirees to be wary of subversive elements within their environment, adding that they should brace up for post-service life challenges.
