G-7’s betrayal and Govt Ganduje’s humility

By Aminu Dahiru
After weeks of long wait, at last Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje floored hard the Shekarau-led G-7 faction of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday reversed the lower court judgment which gave Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s G-7 faction of the APC in Kano victory over the state party leadership led by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Those present in the court room might have heard the thudding noise the shaky foundation upon which the quasi-politicians stood made when it crashed.

The appellate court ruled in favour of the governor’s faction in all the three appeals lodged against the judgments of the lower courts.

Simply put, the court approved of the leadership of Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas as the APC chairman in the state.

Why the judgment was reversed? One may ask; it is this:
The Court of Appeal set aside the lower court’s judgment for lack of territorial jurisdiction and because it is an intra-party affair.

Also, even the originating process that were used to file the case was wrongly done as such even the originating process was set aside. It is wonderful that all the decisions are unanimous.

This may not be the major takeaways from the intra-party crisis and the recent judgment. There are more to it than meets the eye. It’s a story of betrayal and Ganduje’s humble seat of power.

For almost a year, the so-called G-7 faction of the APC which include the senator representing Kano Central and a former two-time governor of the state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Barau I. Jibril, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Shaaban Sharada and their cohorts had waged a “war of blame” on the Ganduje administration, and by extension the people of Kano State.

Deceived by their early victory in court against the party chairmanship in the state, the disgruntled members of the party went on berserk doing all possible to cast Governor Abdullahi Umar ganduje in bad light.

These are people who were almost forgotten in Kano politics, but Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje out of his magnanimity picked them from the debris, dusted them up and brought them back into the limelight.

Fed and clothed by the Governor, the G-7 decided to wrench the party from the hands of a sitting Governor. They file a suit challenging the local government congresses in the state for only one reason: ‘Ganduje will not be’. Long a go a philosopher said, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.” But the G-7 could not heed to that. At least nemesis is catching up with them

The actions and inactions that bore out of the political crisis in Kano are gradually bringing us to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s humble seat of power.

A moment after emerging victorious at the Court of Appeal, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje extended an olive branch to the people that plotted to eject him from the Kano political space. The governor is magnanimous even in victory and he wants end the confrontation and unite the party in the state.

Governor Ganduje hoped that the Shekarau-led G-7 “will accept the decision of the court in good faith and come together with us to see how we can structure our party to be victorious in all the elections in 2023.

“This is the high time for every member of the party to come together and work for the unity and progress of the party.”

Only a humble governor will put such a serious scheme behind him, despite the enormous power vested in him, and move forward to unite the party once more. And this is also a lesson for those who want to challenge their masters in the future.
