BCC Governorship Debate: Gawuna Urges Politics Without Bitterness, Rancor

Umar Idris Shuaibu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate in Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawauna, has urged supporters of all the political parties in the state to play politics without bitterness ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Dr. Gawuna made the call during his closing remarks at a two-hour debate organized for five governorship candidates in the state by the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) at the Aliko Dangote Business School, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), on Saturday.

The other governorship candidates who participated in the debate were, Mohammed Sani Abacha of the PDP, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada of the ADP, and Salihu Tanko Yakasai of the PRP.

The Deputy Governor of Kano state said there was no need for any rancor or bitterness in the course of the ongoing campaigns and during the forthcoming elections, as God had already chosen the person who would be the next Governor of Kano State.

He said what was needed currently was peace and harmony.

Gawuna then advised the political parties’ stalwarts to emulate what transpired between them, reminding them that afterall, virtually all of them had once belonged to one political party or the other.

The APC Flagbearer also stated that having heard from the candidates, it was now left for the people of the state to vote for their choice in the forthcoming polls.

Gawuna said for him, the forthcoming election was about the love for Kano State, fear of God, and getting the chance to serve the people of the state, adding that if elected, he would serve them diligently and with fear of God.

He added that whoever God had chosen, he would support him and give him sincere and honest advice for the development of the State.

The well-attended debate featured questions on issues such as healthcare, education, economy, and commerce anchored by Ibrahim Isa of the BBC and answered by the five respective governorship candidates.

Dignitaries who graced the debate included the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, and Spokesperson of the Gawauna/Garo Campaign Council, Malam Muhammad Garba, and other party supporters.

The encounter was aired live on the BBC Hausa world service and some local radio stations located within the Kano metropolis.
