Shekarau snubs Gawuna, as Ex-Governor reached a point of no return
Umar Idris Shuaibu - Kano
A former Governor of Kano State Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has refused to grant audience to the Deputy Governor of Kano State and anointed Governorship candidate of the APC, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
Nasiru Gawuna had served as Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Council when Malam Shekarau was Governor between 2003 and 2007.
Reports says that Malam Shekarau had concluded arrangement to make formal announcement for his defection to New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), on Saturday.
Worried by the mass defection that hit the APC in the wake of selection of Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna and Murtala Sule Garo as consensus Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates, the party is making concerted efforts to stop the exodus.
Gawuna, according to inside sources, visited the Mundubawa residence of the former Governor in company of a few close associates on Tuesday night.
“When he came, Malam Shekarau was alerted about his presence, but Malam refused to see him. Gawuna was later told that Malam was deep asleep after taking his medication,” said a source at the Mundubawa residence.
Sources says that the former Governor, who now represents Kano Central Senatorial District, jetted to Abuja yesterday's morning.
The sources close to Malam Shekarau also said that he had reached a point of no return in his decision to dump the APC.
