Hanifa: 'Put mechanism to protect children from abuse' - Aisha Buhari tell KNSG

Nigeria’s First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, has called on Kano State Government to put in place mechanism to protect children from abuse considering the case of the gruesome killing of  five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar in the State.

The first lady gave the advice at a News conference held at the Kano State Government House, on Wednesday, noting that she is purposely on a private visit to register her condolence in person with the two families of Hanifa Abubakar and famous Islamic Cleric, late Sheik Ahmad Bamba.

“In a situation where children are no longer safe in schools, then, our society has become something else. We want to see those behind the killing being punished immediately,” Aisha emphasized.

She said, “We want to see one or two persons face the law and be quickly executed, so we will know that corrective measures have been taken.”

“Right now, the Nigerian society has become something else, if a whole teacher who is trusted with the children would be behind this dastardly act, he should be punished immediately so that others would learn.”

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who received the first lady together with his wife Hafsat, emphasized that the government was ready to assent to the death warrant of Hanifa’s killer.

“I will not waste a second to sign the death warrant of those behind the killing of the five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar,” Ganduje assured.

“Hanifa is our daughter and that of Nigerians. We are concerned and we are happy about the visit all the way from Abuja. Even when the event took place, you made a Press statement that you hope the Government will take appropriate measures to see that the culprits are brought to book.”
