Kano Streets Sweepers Protest 10 Months Withhold Salaries

Dozens of street sweepers have protested the refusal of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) to pay their salaries in the last 10 months. It was learnt that the street sweepers gathered at the headquarters of REMASAB, on Tuesday where they called on the managing director of the board, Alhaji Ahmad Danzago, to pay their salaries. The protesters also complained about how dangerous their job is, narrating how some of them have been killed in the course of duty at different locations across Kano City. Some of the protesters spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of victimization by officials of the REMASAB. One of them said, “Well, concerning this issue, we pray that our salaries will be released, especially those of those who are working for the companies. “These companies that employ us are in charge of keeping the highways and motorways of the state clean. Ibrahim Ado-Kurawa When the British conquered Nigeria, they appropriated the Emirate institution and used it to rule the people. Most of the Emirate dynasties of the Sokoto Caliphate across northern Nigeria were about a century old at the time of the British conquest. Their legitimacy was based on the Jihad led by Shehu Usman Danfodio and his followers from 1804 to 1807. In Kano the Sullubawan Dabo Dynasty was founded in 1819 when Sarkin Kano Ibrahim Dabo, their patriarch ascended the throne. The dynasty survived a civil war that was fought between 1893 and 1894. Yusufawa faction, were the victors and the Tukurawa led by Sarkin Kano Tukur (1893-1894) were vanquished. Galadima Yusuf was the leader of the Yusufawa. He died in Garko before the victory but he bequeathed that Aliyu Babba should succeed him. And Alu as he was popularly known became Sarkin Kano (1894-1903). Kano state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has  reminding State Executive Council members  that they  appointment is on six months probation period after which a monitoring and evaluation team under his  headship will be monitoring the performances of the each Ministries. Made this known while presided over the maiden state Executive Council meeting at the inner chamber of Africa House, Government House Kano.  Adding that  those who that performed extremely well will be appreciated and those who performed below expectation will be pulled out”, he said. Kano Governor Appoints Habib Managing Director, Radio Kano

Umar Idris Shuaibu - Kano Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of his spokesman, Hon. Hisham Habib, as the Managing Director of Kano State Radio Corporation, Radio Kano. Habib until recently was Chairman of the Kano Online Journalists Association. A statement issued by Hisham Habib, Spokesperson to the Governor, on Tuesday said the appointment is with immediate effect. Hisham Habib,  a season Journalist who graduated from Science Secondary School Kafin Hausa in 1994, holds a Degree in English from Bayero University Kano, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the same institution. Prior to this appointment, Habib worked as a staff of the state’s Ministry of Information and held the position of Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Justice. 'The Historica Nigeria' One of the buses conveying stranded Nigerians from Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, to Port Sudan where they will move into Saudi Arabia caught fire in the early hours of Monday. Twenty-six buses conveying the stranded Nigerians left Al Razi around 12:am on Monday for Port Sudan. “One of the buses conveying some 50 Nigerian students from Sudan with a tag number (Katsina 1) heading to Port Sudan as part of the second batch of FGN evacuation got damaged due to excessive heat from one of the vehicle’s tyres. “Dr Hashim Idris Na’Allah, the chairman of the Nigerian Elders’ Forum in Sudan, was one of the passengers in the said bus, which contained a total of 50 students (49 males, 1 female). “The driver stopped the bus near an RSF checkpoint, just before the tire exploded causing a fire to start. “All the passengers escaped unhurt.
